Case Study: Homeopathic Management of Allergic Bronchitis with Asthma

Lifestyle: Sedentary; avoids junk food; non-vegetarian
Previous Medication: Anti-allergic drugs & inhaler, Homeopathic medicines in globules form
Family History: Respiratory allergies in uncle; younger brother with respiratory issues

Condition Before Treatment

A patient who was suffering from allergic bronchitis with asthma for almost two & a half years, where the severity of the condition was increasing and recurrence of the symptoms was also significantly increased over the past six months. He came with the complaint of continuous breathlessness, tightness in chest, weakness, cough & congestion, along with bilateral knee pain. The complaints of respiratory issues were frequent which started in childhood where he suffered from frequent episodes of cold & cough.

The symptoms which were persistent were mostly triggered by environment & some dietary factors. His condition gets aggravated consistently by seasonal changes, weather fluctuations & temperature variations while there were certain foods like banana, curd & sour items also triggered coughing & breathlessness. Every morning his condition was more severe than all day where he reported an expectoration of thick yellowish to grey phlegm with coughing all day long. He also reported that he has a family history of respiratory allergies where his uncle faced persistent breathlessness and allergies, and the patient's younger brother also had some respiratory issues.

The continuous severity of his condition made him rely on strong anti-allergic medication every alternate day which required an inhaler to manage breathlessness. He had already tried different types of medication previously with homeopathy treatment in a globules form two years ago without any proper prescription which did offer him temporary relief leading to recurrence of the symptoms again. Because of the severity he had to try allopathic medications that also offered short-term control of symptoms, but the condition remained recurrent. He also came with the blood and respiratory test including CBC and TB test and they were normal & negative.

Treatment Approach

After taking a thorough consultation of the patient’s continuous chronic respiratory pattern, risk to infections, family history & triggering factors, Dr. Shikha Bhandari started a structured homeopathic treatment plan for over three months where she took almost 8 follow ups for his continuous recovery.

Month 1

Tuberculinum 200: Single dose in the morning on an empty stomach
Arsenicum Album 200 (drops): 2 drops in one spoon of water on alternate days for 7 days (evening)
Blatta Orientalis Q and Aspidosperma Q: 5 drops each in ½ cup of lukewarm water, three times daily before food.

In the first month of the treatment the doctor focused on dealing with the chronic allergic tendency, breathlessness, chest congestion & continuous infections.

Month 2

Follow-up observations:
On the first follow up patient reported reduced cough, improved energy levels, relief in chest congestion & very less episodes of breathlessness.

Treatment continued with:

Tuberculinum 200: Single dose in the morning
Arsenicum Album 200: 2 drops every third day for 4 doses
Blatta Q & Aspidosperma Q: Once daily before food

As the patient started to recover gradually, the doctor intentionally reduced how often the medicines were given, because the body no longer needed the same intensity of treatment.

Month 3

Presenting complaints:
The patient faced mild sleep disturbance along with some chest congestion that was caused and triggered by damp & changing weather conditions. This stage of treatment focused on dealing with the body’s continuous sensitivity to weather changes while supporting deeper, more restful sleep.

Prescribed:

Dulcamara 30: Twice daily for 7 days
Passiflora Q: In ½ cup of lukewarm water at bedtime for 7 days
Natrum Sulphuricum 6X: Twice daily for 15 days

Timeline of Improvement

The patient noticed a gradual reduction in cough and breathlessness within 20–25 days of starting treatment. He no longer faced any kind of weakness or tightness in chest by the end of the second month. In between the treatment the patient reduced his dependency on anti allergic medicines and inhalers where he was almost taking daily gradually it was 2 times in 15 days and after that 2 times in a month, by the end of the treatment he totally left conventional medicine. In the third month of the treatment after 15 days, the patient reported complete relief, no cough, no congestion, increased energy & no breathlessness. He also confirmed that the previous food that triggered symptoms no longer caused any reaction so he can eat banana, curd or any sour item & there was no recurrence of respiratory issues.

Conclusion

A case where the patient continuously suffered from severe respiratory issue allergic bronchitis with asthma where his symptoms were too frequent and disturbing which made his day to day life very hard. Even after trying different treatments including homeopathy it didn’t give him permanent relief. This is a perfect example that even homeopathy medicine sometimes doesn't work if not properly provided and guided with correct medicines. The patient started to face cold and cough from his childhood and it continued to give him trouble in his later life.

Under proper medical guidance and correctly prescribed homeopathic medicine the patient achieved permanent relief from allergic bronchitis. The treatment removed recurrence of the symptoms and his reliance on conventional medicine by dealing with his chronic allergic tendency, sensitivity to environment & respiratory weakness. This case perfectly highlights the role of homeopathy in managing chronic respiratory conditions safely & effectively, even after persistent illness. Currently he is normal with no recurrence of the symptoms, all thanks to Dr. Shikha Bhandhari and homeopathy.
